As someone that earns his living from the Internet, I've often been asked by people how they can earn money online too.

Especially vexing to most of the people that posed that question was that they had no product to sell. Of course, there are things like affiliate programs and selling ad space if you have a popular site, but since most of my money comes from selling information that's what I know best.

It did little good to tell folks they could sell information without giving them a "roadmap" to follow, and to do that in an email reply just wasn't feasible. When you get hundreds of emails each day, there just isn't time to answer them all, especially those requiring a long, detailed answer.

I really wanted to help these folks though, because I'd been where they were coming from. So I thought about it, and decided to write an ebook teaching how to make and sell ebooks. I was convinced anyone that could read, write, and follow instructions could create a second income for themselves.

So I wrote it, gave out a few copies to the folks who especially touched my heart with their motivations, and then put it up for sale. I sold over $2,000 worth the first two days it was on the market. It's been selling well for over 5 years now (not at a $1000 a day clip though).

I even had one woman write to me that she had tears in her eyes when she read my personal success philosophy because, for the first time, she could see exactly what she'd been doing wrong all her life. That was a nice bonus for me knowing I helped her so much.

When it comes down to it, that's really all selling information is about—helping people learn something they don't know. Now, this is where most people get stuck. They don't think they know anything worth selling but that just isn't true.

Everyone has some areas of expertise that others want knowledge in, or you can at least research via the Internet or books to gain expertise. All you have to do is connect a topic to the people looking for that information to make money from it. People have always and will always pay for information. You're saving them a lot of time and effort. It's work for you to put it all together, but you get to sell your work over and over and over!

As I said, I wrote eBook Farming about 5 years ago, and I'm still selling it today. I've only had to update it twice, which only took a few hours each time. Every time I sell a copy my hourly rate for writing it goes up because the money keeps coming in long after the work has been done. It's kind of like going to work for an employer for a few weeks and having the employer keep paying you after you quit!

I see so many people wanting to get ahead, wasting their money on get rich quick schemes, it makes me want to grab them and yell WAKE UP in their face! If get rich quick schemes really worked everyone would be rich. Financial independence is a building process. It takes dedication and perseverence. If you can't give that, don't waste your money on empty promises of wealth.

If you are more realistic than the dreamers who fall for the something-for-nothing scams, you just might be the kind of person that can build a good online business selling information products. You can make money selling ebooks and make money giving ebooks away.

I Thought I'd Seen It All

I came across a web site the other day offering an ebook for sale that promised to teach anyone how to make money online. The ebook wasn't that big, but the thing is, the author was selling it for $297.00!

Where do these guys get off selling ebooks for that much when a print book, which costs more to produce and deliver, would probably sell for a quarter of that at the very most?

Some people are just trying to get rich a little too fast if you ask me.

I wonder how many people pony up that kind of money? It's especially disheartening when there are much lower cost options.
